Changing the Stone's battery

The Stone uses a CR2032 battery. To replace its battery, please follow the steps below. We've made this handy video, or you can follow the written directions below. These directions are for the 1st version of the Stone.

Instructions:

1. Hold the Stone on its side so the keyring hole is facing directly up.

2. Gently insert the ball point pen into the keyring hole and apply light downward pressure until the Stone shell splits open.

3. Remove the old battery from the triangle contacts and insert your new battery with the positive contact facing upwards. (“+” side up!)

4. Place the Stone Button side of the plastic on a flat surface and align the front of the Stone plastic on top. Press the two pieces together firmly until the sides are closed.

5. Press the Stone button and verify that the LED flashes.

Please note: If the light does not flash, repeat steps 1-3 and verify that the battery is inserted correctly. If the device does not turn on after replacing the battery, please reach out to support@pebblebee.com

My Stone says it's already Claimed

There are a couple common reasons a Stone shows as claimed:

1. You've already Claimed your Stone. Stones can be claimed in one account at a time, although that account can be accessed on different phones.

2. The account you created when you first Claimed your Stone is different than the one you're logged in to now.
Confirm that you are using the same email address you first used to create an account. If you're not sure what email address you're currently logged in to, it can be found on the profile page of the app.

Still not sure why it says it's claimed? Please contact support@pebblebee.com!

How do I turn on Tracking mode?

The first version of the Stone offers the ability to turn Tracking Mode On or Off. When Tracking Mode is turned On, the Stone sends out a signal regularly; when Tracking is Off, the Stone sends a signal only when the Stone's button is pressed. Turning Tracking Mode On enables the following features to be used:

  • Motion tracking
  • Temperature tracking
  • Range tracking

Not sure if you have a V1 Stone? They look like this, and have a rounded front and hole through the top for a key ring:

Directions: Hold the Stone's button for 6 seconds to enable/disable Tracking Mode.

3 LED Flashes = Tracking Mode is Off
4 LED Flashes = Tracking Mode is On

What do the different blinking LED lights mean?

Your Stone uses its blinking LED light to indicate what it's doing.

If you Press or Press-and-Hold the Stone's button, the LED light will blink between 6-8 times.

  • It blinks as long as it takes for the Stone to transmit its packet of info to the app, which is why it can fluctuate between 6-8 times.
  • Once it's done blinking, you can press the Stone's button again to trigger another action.

The Stone will also blink to let you know if you've turned Tracking Mode On or Off. (Applies to the first version of the Stone only-- not the Gen 2 Stone)

  • When you hold down the button for 6 seconds, it blinks 3 time to say Tracking Mode is Off, and 4 times to say that Tracking Mode is On.

I can't claim my Stone

Android Claiming

Let's start with the basic claiming process...

  1. Log in to your account. If you haven't yet created an account, you can find information on that in our User Manuals.
  2. Stay on the Hive page (the home page of the app)
  3. Briefly press and release the Stone's button.
  4. Within 5-10 seconds, a pop-up will ask you to confirm that you want to claim the Stone. If it does not, press the Stone's button a second time.
  5. Once claimed, go to the Device page to name your Stone and set up actions for the button presses

If you're experiencing problems still, check the following:
  • Is Bluetooth on?
  • Do you have network connection? Internet is required to claim the Stone to the database.
  • Does the Crowd GPS symbol show at the top of the phone? It's the small swirly icon. If it doesn't show, refresh the Hive page and check again.
  • Has the Stone already been claimed to another account?
  • Does the Stone's LED blink when you press its button? If not, please contact support@pebblebee.com.

iOS Claiming

  5. Once named, the app checks the database to make sure that Stone has not been claimed. Once confirmed, it gets added to your account.

If you're experiencing problems still, check the following:
  • Is Bluetooth on?
  • Do you have network connection? Internet is required to claim the Stone to the database.
  • Have Location Services been enabled for the app? You can check this by going to your iPhone settings for the Pebblebee Stone app. If not enabled, please enable.
  • Does the Stone's LED blink when you press its button? If not, please contact support@pebblebee.com.

How do I assign actions for my Stone?

Each Stone has two different button press functions that can have an Action assigned to them

Press : Briefly press and release the Stone's button
Press-and-Hold : Press and hold the Stone's button for roughly 2 seconds

To assign an action, go to the device page for the Stone you'd like to edit. On Android, the bottom left icon is the Press action, and the bottom right is the Press-and-Hold action. On iOS, the upper left icon is the Press action, and the upper right is the Press-and-Hold action.

For more detailed information on the various actions and how to set them up, please check out the User Manuals found here.

How do I delete a Stone?

To remove a device from an account, unclaim it. Unclaiming is easy, and does not require the device to be present.

Android:
  1. Launch the app.
  2. From the Hive page, swipe the device that you want to delete to either the left or right of the page.
  3. A pop-up will ask you to confirm that you want to Unclaim your device.
  4. The device can now be claimed by another account.

iOS:
  1. Launch the app.
  2. Go to the Device page for the Stone you'd like to remove.
  3. Tap on the Settings icon.
  4. On the bottom of the page, select Unclaim Stone and confirm the action.
  5. The Stone can now be claimed by another account.

What if I don't have the same phone anymore?

That's okay! Since devices are claimed to accounts, not the phone itself, you don't need the original phone. Using any compatible phone, download the app and sign in to your account, then continue with the unclaiming process.

Tips for using the Stone Sleeve accessories

If you own the first version of the Stone (bought through Indiegogo or Kickstarter), you likely received accessories for your Stone(s). The flexible silicone sleeves come in Pink, Blue, and Glow-in-the-Dark and offer additional protection for your Stone against dirt, water, and general use.

For user who place a Stone on a key ring, we highly recommend adding a Stone Sleeve first. Adding a sleeve will prevent your Stone from splitting apart while on a key ring.

To easily add a silicone Sleeve to your Stone, flip the sleeve inside out. Match the rounded surface of the Stone with the solid rounded side of the flipped sleeve. Flip the upper edge of the sleeve over the end with the key ring hole, then flip the remaining end over.
